• Your investment in optics will give you great pleasure on your birding activities. It is best to purchase the best quality optics that your budget can afford.

• In order to make your use of binoculars comfortable, try a soft stretchy-foam neck strap. Many high quality binoculars, such as the Stokes Broadwing Binoculars will include a soft stretchy foam neck strap with the binoculars you purchase.

• Reduce flare and image deterioration by shading your eyes and optics. This will increase contrast and clarity. Using a brimmed hat such as a Sunday Afternoons Hat will serve as a constant source of shade!

• Pre-adjusting your binoculars with the correct span between your eyes, eye relief position and diopter prior to any birding trip will reduce the chance of losing your subject.

• During periods of colder weather you will want to slowly acclimate your optics to the outside temperature to prevent condensation and fogging on the lenses. Alternatively, during periods of hot weather, you will want to avoid leaving your optics in direct sunlight for long periods of time or in an auto where the temperature can rise rapidly and destroy the optics.

• When using insect repellant on your hands, avoid touching the rubber coating of binoculars and scopes. Insect repellant can dissolve some coatings and cause hands to stick to the lens barrel.

• Properly cleaning your optics will improve performance. Improper cleaning will damage lens coatings. In order to properly clean your optics, use a soft sable brush or air-bulb puff of wind to remove coarse particles like sand. Follow up with a drop of lens cleaning fluid applied to a lint-free tissue to gently remove stubborn smears or fingerprints. Avoid rubbing the lens surface every time a speck of dust appears.

• Not all binoculars/scopes are waterproof. In addition, exposure to salt spray, boat splash, and road dust can cause some damage. Use an oversize plastic freezer bag as an easy way to protect your optics.
